Knights were medieval gentleman-soldiers, usually high-born, raised by a sovereign to privileged military status, often after training first as a page and squire. When knights followed a code of chivalry (as they understood it) ideas about honor and decent behavior focused mostly on concern for the noble classes that knights were part of, often at the expense of the poor.
