Oldest Totem

A totem is an incarnate spirit, sometimes considered sacred, or symbol that symbolizes a group of traits or characteristics. Whilst totem can be used to describe a religious or sacred object revered by a group or tribe, it is more commonly used to refer to animal totems or power animals. Traditionally shamans believe that spirit animals or totems are come to us to guide and protect throughout a journey, in particular our life journey, although much of this whilst it’s go back a long way, can be ascribed to new age thinking.  Of course, we all know the word as it has been used for thousands of years in the expression Totem Pole, monuments created by the Native American Indians.  The worlds oldest totem can be seen at Potlatch Totem Park in Alaska.
